One common question we ask owners is, in what year did you get married?
The marriage date determines what properties spouses co-own and what properties they own separately.
If couples were married before August 3, 1988, they get to retain individual ownership of the property they had before they got married. This property regime is called the Conjugal Partnership of Gains (CPG).
If couples were married after this date, the spouses would co-own all the properties they owned before marriage. This regime is called the Absolute Community of Property (ACP).
But you probably know this already.
The usual problem is remembering the reckoning date: August 3, 1988. So here's a mnemonic...
"8-88"
...which is basically August '88.
From hereon, you'll never forget the date again.
