Government Sale of Assets

In an interview with the Inquirer, Finance Secretary Dominguez confirmed that the next administration may consider closing and selling NAIA in lieu of the airports in Clark.

“We had thought about that since 2016. But we have to see first how the development of the alternative [airports] to NAIA is developing,” Dominguez said.

JPRE: Another asset they MIGHT sell is the New Bilibid Prison. An article published by Manila Bulletin last November 17, 2021 said:

"A strong political will is needed for the national government to sell the large Muntinlupa national penitentiary and establish three regional detention centers," Senator Sotto said.

Sotto, thus, threw his support to Senator Drilon who continues to badger the Department of Justice to try to convince the Executive branch on the merits of selling the 300-hectare or so Muntinlupa penitentiary and establishing regional jails in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao."

Senator Angara told Drilon that the Bureau of Corrections has received offers from the private sector should there be a government decision to sell it.
