Once upon a time, a tenant of a condo unit complained about a leak from the kitchen cupboard.
The tenant called the engineering department to check it out. The Engineer checks the leak and confirms that it's 1. coming from the wall, and 2. coming from the unit above. Then, the Engineer scratches his head.
The tenant who complained lived on the 25th floor. As it turns out, a unit from the 35th floor also complained about a similar leak in the same area. This meant that:
1. The leak originated from a higher floor than the 35th
2. All the units between the 35th floor and 25th floor are likely experiencing the same leak.
Who should shoulder the repair? Should it be the condo admin? Should it be the tenant? Or should it be the owner/tenant of the primary source of the leak? Since multiple units are likely damaged, I expect the bill to be quite hefty.
Lessons: If the unit will be untenanted for a long time (e.g., the tenant will be leaving the country), have the admin turn off the water supply. Also, make sure to triple check the windows are closed properly.
Make sure to report leaks immediately.
