POGO Update

PAGCOR has given POGO operators until September 17, 2023, to re-apply for their licenses.

PAGCOR: "In the present framework, all Service Providers accepting bets must apply for a license. We will also evaluate the beneficial owners of these companies so that they will be held liable in case they are found to be involved in any illegal activity."

“Entities with findings of activities outside their granted license or accreditation will not be granted a license under the new framework. Likewise, licensees or service providers who shall not re-apply or were granted license within the given period shall be endorsed for cancellation.”

PAGCOR has enacted reforms that include “intensified inspection and verification of compliance; submission of reports to enforcement agencies for investigation and verification of findings; enhanced coordination with relevant government agencies; and stricter implementation of regulations and imposition of heavy penalties to licensees and services providers who violated existing regulations.”

According to a PAGCOR report published in July 18, 2023, there are currently 32 firms with POGO licenses.

In a separate BWorld article published July 6, Leechiu Property Consultants reported that POGOs took up about 88,000 sqm of office space in 1H2023 (vs. a 3-year total of 89,000 sqm).
