Once upon a time, a commercial unit on the second floor was leased out to a small business. The tenant constructed a bathroom in its unit WITHOUT informing the owner.
A few months passed, and the pipes of the newly constructed bathroom burst. The water leaked to the ground floor, damaging another tenant's digital equipment. Luckily, the tenant on the ground floor was insured, so they were able to claim the damages from their insurance company.
The insurer tried to claim reimbursement for the damaged digital equipment from the 2nd floor tenant, but was unsuccessful. It's likely that the small business could not afford to pay for the damages.
So...they sued the owner of the building instead…for Php60 Mn.
